How to move your spots and catches from Navionics, Fishbrain or onX

Your spots took years to find, so bring them with you. Export a file from the old app or your plotter, then import it into HuntGrid Fishing: GPX, KML, KMZ, GeoJSON or CSV, up to 20 MB. Everything you import is private: nobody sees it unless you share it.

From onX Fish

Move from onX Fish

  1. Export from onX Fish

onX’s help centre says waypoints saved in onX Fish don’t move to another app on their own: you export them to a GPX or KML file. Only each waypoint’s position and name go in the file; colours and icons stay behind.

  2. Find the export

onX’s step-by-step help is written for the onX Hunt web map: open My Content, select the waypoints (or all of them), choose Export, then GPX or KML. Look for the same steps in onX Fish; its menus may differ.

  3. Import it into HuntGrid Fishing

Create a free account, open My maps → Import and pick the file. You see what’s in it and choose what to keep before anything is saved.

Each waypoint arrives with its name and position. When its name says what it is, like a ramp or a hump, it gets the matching fishing icon.

From Fishbrain

Move from Fishbrain

  1. Ask Fishbrain for your data

We found no export option in Fishbrain’s help centre. Its privacy policy says you have the right to get your personal data in a portable format, and that you ask its support team for it (the address is in the policy). It says it answers within 30 days.

  2. Find your catches in it

Look for a CSV file (a spreadsheet file) with a species and a date for each catch. Fishbrain doesn’t publish what its file looks like, so HuntGrid Fishing finds the columns by their names. If your catches come in another kind of file, HuntGrid Fishing can’t read it yet.

  3. Import and check the species

Open My maps → Import and pick the file: it’s read on your device, not uploaded. Each species name is matched to ours, and you check the ones we aren’t sure about before anything is saved. A catch whose species we can’t name can wait as Needs details.

The catches land in your own catch log, private like everything you log, and you can edit any of them.

From your chartplotter

Move from your chartplotter

  • Garmin

Put a memory card in the chartplotter. In the user data’s data transfer menu, set the file type to GPX, then save to the card. Menus differ between models: Garmin’s GPSMAP 7400/7600 manual shows them. Set the file type back to ADM to swap data between Garmin units again.

  • Lowrance

We found no page where Lowrance shows how its displays export waypoints; your display’s manual has the steps. Choose GPX if it’s offered: HuntGrid Fishing can’t read Lowrance’s own USR files.

  • Humminbird

Newer Humminbird units save waypoints as GPX: export them to an SD card from the unit’s data menu. HELIX units use Humminbird’s own HWR format, which HuntGrid Fishing can’t read; Humminbird’s free HumminbirdPC for Windows converts them to GPX.

Then open My maps → Import and pick the GPX file from the card. Waypoint symbols become fishing icons when we can tell what they mean.

After the import

  • Pick what to keep

You see everything in the file before anything is saved. Untick what you don’t want and choose a folder: My Spots unless you pick another.

  • Fill in the details

Add depth, bottom, cover, species and best winds and months to your spots, and size, lure and notes to any catch.

  • Help in the app

The help page in HuntGrid Fishing has the export steps for each of these apps and plotters, and for other apps.

  • Back to your plotter

Export your spots as GPX, with Garmin’s symbol names for Garmin and Navionics and plain names for other units, in files of 2,000 or 5,000 waypoints if your unit needs it.

Export steps checked on October 27, 2026 against Garmin: using the Navionics Boating app with a Garmin chartplotter, Navionics Boating on the App Store, onX help: markups across onX Hunt, Offroad, Backcountry and Fish, onX help: importing and exporting markups, Fishbrain privacy policy, Garmin GPSMAP 7400/7600 manual: file type for other devices, Garmin GPSMAP 7400/7600 manual: copying user data to a memory card, Humminbird help: exporting your nav data, Humminbird help: moving nav data between units, Humminbird help: nav data as GPX. Apps and units change their menus; if a step doesn’t match, check the vendor’s own help.

Navionics, Garmin, GPSMAP, onX, onX Fish, onX Hunt, Fishbrain, Lowrance, Humminbird, HELIX and HumminbirdPC are trademarks of their owners. HuntGrid isn’t affiliated with them; their names are used only to describe switching and comparing. Check each app’s own site for its current plans and features.

Questions

Still have a question? Read the HuntGrid Fishing help pages or email support@huntgrid.net.

What files can I import?

GPX, KML, KMZ, GeoJSON and CSV, up to 20 MB, from your phone or your computer. Plotters’ own formats (Garmin ADM, Lowrance USR, Humminbird HWR) can’t be read: export GPX instead.

Are imported spots private?

Yes. They’re your spots like any other: private by default, and nobody sees them unless you share them. We never sell location data, spots or catches.

Is my catch file uploaded?

No. A catch file is read on your device; the catches are then saved in your own log and sync to your other devices like any catch you log.

Can I put my spots back on my chartplotter?

Yes. Export them as GPX from My maps. Older units can take the file in parts of 2,000 or 5,000 waypoints.
