Solunar table and deer feeding times today

Today’s deer feeding times (the solunar major and minor periods), sunrise and sunset, first and last light and the moon for the next 7 days, for your location or any place. Computed on your device.

The solunar table needs JavaScript. You can also see solunar times, sun and moon for any spot in the HuntGrid app.

How to read the solunar table

Major periods last about two hours, centred on the moon passing overhead (its highest point) and underfoot (directly opposite, below the horizon). Minor periods last about an hour, centred on moonrise and moonset.

The rating from 0 to 4 stars counts what hunters look for: a moon near new or full, and periods that overlap the hour either side of sunrise or sunset, when deer and other game are already on their feet.

First and last light are civil dawn and dusk, when the sun is 6° below the horizon and there's enough light to see without a flashlight. They are not legal shooting hours: those are set by your state or province.

All times are in the place's own time zone, so you can plan a hunt in another state on a phone still set to home time.

In the HuntGrid app, solunar times sit next to the wind, your hunt score for each stand and the legal-light countdown in Hunt Mode, and they keep working offline.

What is a solunar table?

A solunar table lists the times of day when the moon is overhead or underfoot (major periods, about two hours each) and when it rises or sets (minor periods, about an hour each). Many hunters and anglers plan around them, believing game moves and feeds more at those times.

What are deer feeding times today?

Deer feeding charts are solunar tables: the major periods (about two hours around the moon overhead or underfoot) and minor periods (about an hour around moonrise and moonset) are when solunar theory expects deer to feed and move most. Pick your place above to see today’s periods and the week ahead in your time zone. The best ones overlap first or last light.

Do solunar tables really work for hunting?

The evidence is mixed. Weather, wind, pressure changes, the rut and hunting pressure often matter more. A solunar period that overlaps first or last light is the one most hunters watch, which is why the rating gives those days a boost.

How is the day rating worked out?

Days within a day of a new or full moon score 2, within three days 1. A major period overlapping an hour either side of sunrise or sunset adds 1, and a minor one adds 1, for a top score of 4.

Is first light the same as legal shooting time?

Not necessarily. First light here is civil dawn, when the sun is 6° below the horizon. Legal shooting hours are set by each state and province, and they differ by species and season, so always check your regulations. The HuntGrid app shows the rule and a countdown where it has a checked rule.

Is my location sent anywhere?

No. The times are computed in your browser, and your location never leaves your device.
