A Navionics alternative with a free web depth map
HuntGrid Fishing is a free lake depth map that runs in your browser: plan on your computer, then take the same spots to the water on your phone. It’s built for fishing, not navigation. Here’s how it compares with Navionics, how to bring your markers over, and what it doesn’t do yet.

What HuntGrid Fishing gives you for free
A depth map on your computer
Depth shading and contours in feet or metres in any browser, with each survey’s source and date. Plan at your desk, fish with your phone.
Structure Scout
Humps, saddles, points, turns, flats and channel edges labelled with their depth on surveyed lakes.
Private spots
Spots with depth, bottom, cover, species and best conditions, private unless you share them, on every device you sign in to.
Your plotter’s waypoints
GPX from Garmin, Lowrance, Humminbird and Navionics: symbols become fishing icons where there’s a match.
Switching
Move from Navionics in three steps
Export your markers
In the Navionics Boating app, export your saved markers as a GPX file.
Import it into HuntGrid Fishing
Create a free account, open My maps → Import and pick the file. You see what’s in it and choose what to keep before anything is saved.
Keep charts for the boat
HuntGrid Fishing isn’t for navigation. If you run a boat, keep proper nautical charts for that, and plan and log your fishing here.
What HuntGrid Fishing doesn’t do yet
Better you hear it here than find out on the water.
Not a chart
No nautical charts, navigation aids or routes. Depth maps help you fish; they aren’t for navigation.
Depth isn’t on every lake
Depth shows only where a government agency has published a lake survey that we’ve loaded. Elsewhere the map shows no depth rather than a guess.
No App Store or Google Play app
HuntGrid Fishing installs from the browser for now, on iPhone, Android and computers.
Navionics, Garmin, SonarChart and Auto Guidance are trademarks of their owners. HuntGrid isn’t affiliated with them; their names are used only to describe switching and comparing. Check each app’s own site for its current plans and features.
Questions
Still have a question? Read the HuntGrid Fishing help pages or email support@huntgrid.net.
Is there a free alternative to Navionics for fishing?
For finding fish, yes: HuntGrid Fishing shows lake depth and contours for free where agencies have surveyed the lake. It isn’t a navigation chart, so boaters should keep proper charts for running the boat.
Can I see a lake depth map on my computer?
Yes. HuntGrid Fishing runs in any browser, on a computer as well as a phone, and your spots sync between them.
Can I move my Navionics markers?
Yes. Export them from the Navionics Boating app as a GPX file, then import it in HuntGrid Fishing from My maps → Import.
