Gear checklists
Hunting gear checklists that work at the truck
Start a list from a template made for the hunt you’re packing for, tick things off as they go in the truck, add what’s special to you, and uncheck it all for the next trip. The lists are saved on your device, so they work with no signal.

Seven templates to start from
Each template starts with the safety essentials, then adds what that hunt needs. Change anything: they’re a starting point, not a rule.
Safety essentials
Licence and tags, blaze orange, knife, headlamp, first-aid kit, water, food, phone and power bank, offline map, whistle, fire starter, rain gear and a warm layer. Every hunting list starts with these.
Whitetail from a stand
Bow, arrows and release, safety harness and lifeline, haul rope, wind checker, scent control, grunt call, face mask, rangefinder and binoculars.
Rifle season
Rifle, ammunition, sling, shooting sticks, hearing protection, rangefinder, binoculars and a seat cushion.
Backcountry elk
Pack, shelter, sleeping bag, stove, water filter, satellite messenger, trekking poles, bugle and cow calls, game bags, bone saw and spare batteries.
Spring turkey
Shotgun and turkey loads, box, pot and mouth calls, decoys, a blind or seat, face mask and tick repellent.
Ducks and geese
Shotgun and non-toxic shot, waders, calls, decoys, a blind, your dog’s vest and water, the migratory bird stamp or permit, and hand warmers.
After the shot
Tag, pen and zip ties, field dressing kit, gloves, game bags, a blood-tracking light, flagging tape, drag rope or sled, cooler, ice and wipes.
How it works
From the kitchen table to the tailgate
Open Gear checklists
It’s under Me, and “Pack your gear” at the bottom of Today opens it too.
Pick a template
Choose one of the seven templates or a blank list, and rename it after the trip: “November rut, north farm”.
Tick and add
Packed items drop to the bottom and are struck through, with a count of what’s packed. Add your own items and remove the ones you never carry.
Reset for next time
“Uncheck all” clears the ticks and keeps your list, ready for the next hunt.
Good to know
In your language
Template items read in English or French, whichever the app is set to. Your own items stay as you typed them.
On this device for now
Lists are kept on the phone or computer you made them on. Syncing them between your devices and sharing them with your group is planned.
Need ideas?
Read why each item matters in our deer hunting gear checklist and elk hunting gear list.
Licences, tags, blaze orange and permits are set by your state or province: check your local regulations for what you must carry and wear.
Questions
Still have a question? Read the help pages or email support@huntgrid.net.
What should be on a hunting gear checklist?
Start with safety and the law: licence and tags, blaze orange where required, a knife, headlamp, first-aid kit, water, food, a charged phone with an offline map, and layers for the weather. Then add what your hunt needs, such as a safety harness for a tree stand or game bags for elk.
Is there a free hunting checklist app?
Yes. HuntGrid’s gear checklists are free, with seven templates (safety essentials, whitetail from a stand, rifle season, backcountry elk, spring turkey, ducks and geese, after the shot) or a blank list of your own.
Do the checklists work offline?
Yes. They’re saved on your device, so you can tick things off at the truck or at camp with no signal.
Can I share a checklist with my hunting group?
Not yet. Lists are kept on the device you made them on for now; syncing between your devices and sharing with a group are planned.
Can I make my own list?
Yes. Start from a blank list or a template, add your own items, remove any you don’t need and rename the list.
