A Fishbrain alternative that keeps your spots private

Fishbrain is built around sharing catches with other anglers. HuntGrid Fishing is built the other way round: a private map and log where nobody sees where you fish unless you share it. Here’s how they compare, how to bring your catches over, and what HuntGrid Fishing doesn’t do yet.

What HuntGrid Fishing gives you for free

  • Private by default

Spots, catches and tracks are yours alone. We never sell location data, spots or catches.

  • A catch log in three taps

+, Catch, then the species: a catch is logged in three taps, even offline. Add its size, photos and the rest later.

  • Personal bests

Your longest and heaviest fish of each species, and your life list with the date of each first catch.

  • Free depth maps

Depth shading and contours from agency lake surveys, with each survey’s source and date.

  • Your data stays yours

Export your catches as a spreadsheet with every field, any time.

Switching

Move from Fishbrain in three steps

  1. Get your catches as a file

Fishbrain’s privacy policy lets you ask for a copy of your personal data in a format other apps can read. The help page in HuntGrid Fishing shows which file to import.

  2. Import and check the species

Open My maps → Import and pick the catch file: it’s read on your device, not uploaded. Each species name is matched to ours, and you check the ones we aren’t sure about before anything is saved.

  3. Mark your spots

Tap + on the map to save your spots with their depth, bottom, cover and species. Nobody sees them unless you share them.

What HuntGrid Fishing doesn’t do yet

Better you hear it here than find out on the water.

  • No public feed

There’s no social feed of other anglers’ catches. That’s by design: your fishing stays yours.

  • Depth isn’t on every lake

Depth shows only where a government agency has published a lake survey that we’ve loaded. Elsewhere the map shows no depth rather than a guess.

  • No App Store or Google Play app

HuntGrid Fishing installs from the browser for now, on iPhone, Android and computers.

Fishbrain, Fishbrain Pro, Garmin and Navionics are trademarks of their owners. HuntGrid isn’t affiliated with them; their names are used only to describe switching and comparing. Check each app’s own site for its current plans and features.

Questions

Still have a question? Read the HuntGrid Fishing help pages or email support@huntgrid.net.

Is there a fishing app that keeps my spots private?

Yes. In HuntGrid Fishing your spots, catches and tracks are private by default: nobody, other HuntGrid users included, sees where you fish unless you share it. We never sell location data, spots or catches.

Does HuntGrid Fishing show other anglers’ catches on the map?

No. HuntGrid Fishing never maps other anglers’ catch locations.

Can I bring my Fishbrain catches?

Yes. Get your catch data from Fishbrain as a file, then import the CSV of your catches from My maps → Import. You check the species names we aren’t sure about before anything is saved.
